More information : [SK 23155804] TUMULUS [O.E.] (1) [SK 23155804] Green Low, a chambered round barrow opened by Bateman 19th. July 1843. Bateman's description and Manby's plan [AO/LP/62/37] show clearly that it is this barrow. (2-4) Excavated by T.G.Manby, July 1964. A late Neolithic round cairn with a facade of coursed limestone blocks on the south side, central to which is the chamber entrance. The present of Roman coins (SK 25 NW 25) and pottery indicate the passage and possibly the chamber were entered in the late 3rd.c. (5) Resurveyed at 1/2500. (6) Additional reference. (7)
A Prehistoric cairn is visible as earthwork on air photographs, centred at SK 2315 5803. Remnants are still extant on Google.Earth.com 2000 imagery (accessed on 25th January 2010). (8)
