Summary : A motte and bailey castle and an area of ridge and furrow cultivation situated on the outskirts of the village of Seckington. The castle is considered to have been built in the late 11th century by the Earl of Meulan or his son, Robert. The earthworks were in excellent condition when field investigated in 1967. Scheduled.

At Seckington are the scheduled well preserved earthworks of a small motte and bailey constructed in the 11c. by the Earl of Meulan or his son Robert, Earl of Leicester. (2-3)

An almost perfect example of a motte and bailey in excellent condition. The earthworks are, in the main, tree covered. There are no building foundations evident. An original entrance is in the South east corner of the bailey, and on the south west facing slope of the motte the remains of a ramp is visible. There is slight infill at the west junction of the motte ditch and bailey ditch.
