More information : [SK 172 834] The late 10th cent. cross at Hope was found in pieces which were put together and set up in the churchyard. Its exact provenance is unknown. (1) "Hope. In the churchyard a Saxon Cross shaft, with interlace and on the E. and W. faces, pairs of figures, badly preserved, c. 9th cen". (2) Hope, two crosses in churchyard. Scheduled. (3) In addition to the Pre-Conquest shaft there is a mediaeval cross base on five steps. (4) The Saxon cross shaft is situated at SK 17238346 - see G.P. Gritstone with Saxon interlace decoration and pair of figures on the east and west faces,reset on square C20 base. Base of medieval cross on five steps and surmounted by C20 shaft. Both Grade II. (6)
