Summary : Cropmarks a probable Roman rectangular, ditched enclosure and two ring ditches. Finds during excavation included a bronze brooch of circa 50-60 A.D., leather uppers of a Roman shoe and pottery. The area has since been developed. |
More information : SK 195049 Cropmarks. Double ditched rectangular enclosure with linear features and two (?) ring ditches. (1) The site lies upon a slight south-westerly slope. Land south of the railway is under pasture. Nothing of interest noted. To the north of the railway, the land is developed with housing. (2) Excavation revealed at least two phases of occupation. A pre-Flavian bronze brooch of c. 50-60 A.D. was found in the south-west angle of the inner ditch the leather uppers of a Roman shoe and pottery in the upper layer of the fill. (3)
