More information : (SK 11560985) The Palace (NAT). (1) The first record of a Bishop's Palace at Lichfield was the consecration in 1295. Plans of this building are in the Bodleian. It was destroyed in the civil war and the present palace erected in 1687 in the garden of the former palace. See plan from (3). (2-3) In good condition : see photograph. (4) No change since previous field report. (5) I Former Episcopal Palace (St. Chad's School I Chapel adjoining the Former Episcopal Palace 1686-1687. Architect, Edward Pierce. Stone; central block with advanced wings; 2 storeys, central dentilled pediment with armorial sculpture; 7 casement windows in moulded stone architraves; moulded stone doorcase with arched pediment; modillion eaves cornice; 4 pedimented dormers; quoins to all angles, old tiles. Including adjoining C19 Chapel. II Former stables of the former Episcopal Palace Outbuildings to above on left-hand side comprising Lodge and stable block. Stone; central block with advanced wings, the lodge gabled with three-light mullioned casement window and bay window to ground floor; brick chimney stacks. II Garden Wall and Gate Piers at the former Episcopal Palace Stone wall and gate piers to overall frontage. (6)
