Roman milestone of perhaps 1st or 2nd century (3) found in 1856.In 1913 the findspot was pointed out by the finder, George Lees, as just inside the gateway leading to the upper Buxton Railway station, behind the wooden building now standing there. In 1856 this was the garden of Mathew Lees.
The position of the find indicated on OS 25" "differs but slightly
from the spot pointed out by the finder."

The mile-stone was found in 1856, however the date previously given for this is 1862. (2)
No closer siting information could be gained. The milestone is in Buxton Museum. See G.P's AO/66/3/3. (4)
