More information : A stone circle comprising ten stones protruding a few inches above the surface, 15ft in diameter and slightly concave, was discovered on Kirk Moor, NZ 924030, in 1965. A two feet trench dug across the circle revealed a fragmented urn, remains of a cremation and a flint fragment, on a large stone at the centre which bore traces of burning on top and underneath. Evidence suggests that a mound had covered the area until recent times. The urn, too fragmentary to restore, may have been biconical in form and, if so, the circle would belong to the EBA.
