Summary : Pike Howe Bronze Age round barrow sited at the southern end of Three Howes Rigg. Pike How round barrow survives as a 9m diameter stone and earth mound, standing up to 0.5m high topped by a modern cairn of stones. It is surrounded by a largely infilled ditch 4m to 5m wide with a slight, 1m wide, external kerbing of earthfast stones, some exposed, most under a thin peat covering. A central depression suggests robbing or excavation in the past. The barrow is visible as an earthwork on air photographs and was mapped as part of the North York Moors NMP. The barrow is extant on the latest 2009 vertical photography. Scheduled. |
