Church of St Hilda (formerly listed under Church Walk). Church c1200, incorporating remains of early 12th century church, on site of 7th century monastery; aisles partly rebuilt 15th century, restored c1724 and mid-19th century; chancel partly rebuilt c1870 and 1925/32 in Early English style when the whole church was restored. Mid 13th century tower restored 1838, 1893 and 1930. Many Saxon and Medieval architectural fragments throughout church. Grade I. (4)

Eight recumbent grave markers of mid-7th-8th century date have been found in and about the churchyard. One is stored in the church, the others are in the British Museum, , Newcastle Museum of Antiquities, and the Monk's Dormitory, Durham. (6) |
