More information : [NZ 5913 0157] Tumulus [NR] (1) Stoney cairn - disturbed. Diameter 27-30 ft. Height 2 ft. Pole in centre, 1955. (2) As described but in poor condition; probable round cairn. Surveyed at 1:10 000. (3) NZ 591 015. Round Hill group of round cairns. Scheduled No NY/949. (4)
NZ 5913 0157. Round barrow 300m west of Round Hill. The barrow has an earth and stone mound standing 0.8m high and 14m in diameter. The mound was surrounded by a ditch up to 3m wide which has become filled in over the years and is partly visible as an earthwork. There is a modern stone cairn standing on the mound. The Bronze Age round barrow is visible as an earthwork on air photographs, centred at NZ 5913 0157. The barrow was mapped as part of the North York Moors NMP Project and is extant on the latest 2009 vertical photography. (6) |
