More information : [NZ 59430159] Round Hill [NAT] Tumulus [NR] (1) Round Hill, tumulus - highest in NE Yorks - magnificent view in all directions. Large stoney cairn 70 ft diameter N-S 63 ft E-W. Still 67 ft high. Trench dug to north and mutilated in centre by Craster? or others in 19th century. No sign of kerb, but this is likely. Trig point to W side. (2) The cairn is very prominent, turf covered and in fair condition. Surveyed at 1:10 000. (3)
NZ 594 016. Round Hill group of round cairns. Scheduled No NY/949. (4)
NZ 5942 0159. Round barrow at Round Hill, 400m SSW of Botton Head. The barrow has an earth and stone mound standing 2m high and 23m in diameter. The mound was surrounded by a quarry ditch up to 3m wide which has been filled in over the years and is no longer visible as an earthwork. A trench in the north-east flank is evidence that the monument was partly excavated in the past. There is a trigonometry point on the west side of the mound which is included in the scheduling.
