Summary : A deserted medieval settlement is visible as an earthwork on air photographs. A series of boundary banks and ditches, platforms, enclosures and a possible building foundation are all visible as earthworks. The site was bulldozed and ploughed in March 1971.
More information : NZ 430370 Deserted Medieval village of Hulam visible on air photographs. Bulldozed and ploughed in March 1971 and only one limekiln on the south side of the site was identifiable. Pottery finds on the site were mainly late 13th to mid 14th century, with some dated to the late 14th or 15th and 18th century. (1-3) There is no trace of this deserted Medieval village which has been completely ploughed out. (4) A deserted medieval settlement is visible as an earthwork on air photographs, centred at NZ 4315 3703. A series of boundary banks and ditches, platforms, enclosures and a possible building foundation are all visible as earthworks. The settlement is no longer visible on the latest 1989-1992 Ordnance Survey vertical photography. (5)
