Summary : Site of a deserted medieval village; earthwork remains were ploughed out between 1967 and 1972 to reveal stone house platforms and sherds of 13th to 15th century pottery.
More information : NZ 475280. Deserted Medieval village of Claxton was destroyed by ploughing from 1967 to 1972; stones of many house sites, probably of a two-row village, were revealed. The bulk of the pottery found was 13th to 15th century and one or two unusual sherds of possibly earlier date. Nothing visible on air photographs. (1-3)
