Summary : 'Holy Stone', the socket stone of a probable wayside cross, said to mark the site of a resting place for St Cuthbert's body.

According to Mr Orr of Holystone Farm the tradition is that the stone
marks the position where St Cuthbert's body was rested on its way to
Tynemouth. The Holy Stone is the socket stone of a stone cross. It is
0.7m square with a socket hole measuring 0.2m by 0.15m and is made of
local sandstone. (2)

Socket stone of probable wayside cross. Condition unchanged. See
