Summary : Remais of demolished chapel at Ackhampstead, documented in 1278.
More information : (SU 80709058) Church (Ruins) (NAT). (1) Ackhampstead Chapel ruins on Moor Farm. Only low remains of flint walls are visible. The building is said to have been rectangular, with lancet windows. Ackhamstead, a lost hamlet or chapelry, is first mentioned in 1278. (1-2) SU 80709058. The remains of the chapel lie in an overgrown thicket. Leaf mould and earth banking leaves no extant walling showing for a detailed plan to be made, but it is rectangular and measures overall 16.5m x 5.5m with the walls probably standing about 0.4m high. Published survey (25") revised. (4)
