Monument Number 247869

Hob Uid: 247869
Location :
Surrey
Surrey Heath
Non Civil Parish
Grid Ref : SU8790060800
Summary : Alleged site of a Motte.
More information : SU 879608 The mound on which stands an obelisk at Camberley is suggested by Mr Welsh as a possible motte because of its position on a hogsback ridge, its composition of sand and its unusual steepness and regular profile, and also that much of the mound appears to have been constructed prior to 18th century modifications using pebbles and clay for erection of the obelisk. Mr Welsh also understands that a coin of Edward II was found on the hill. (1)
