Summary : Site of St Marys Augustinian Priory, founded by Peter des Roches, Bishop of Winchester, between 1233-4. Financial difficulties forced its closure in 1484, when it was annexed to Magdalene College, Oxford, and the priory buildings were demolished. Excavations have recovered the plan of the church and the claustral complex. The latter lay to the North of the cruciform church and consisted of the usual arrangement of buildings. |
