Summary : Two Bronze Age round barrows are visible as cropmarks of ring ditches on aerial photographs. The two barrows have been exacavated and dated to the Bronze Age based on the presence of a bucket urn and radio-carbon dating evidence. The barrows were excavated prior to gravel extraction and have been destroyed.

BURGHFIELD Complex of intersecting linear features (land
drains?). 2 circles. 2 rectangular enclosures, one with
internal division, at NW of complex. Isolated linear features
to E at 668701. ST JOESPH 57 VP 65; 70 BCH 78-79. NMR 70 SU

Two ring ditches were excavated, one at SU 66357010 and one at SU
66557015. They were dated to the Bronze Age on the presence of a
bucket urn and a radiocarbon date of 110-+100BC (2)

The two Bronze Age round barrows, described by the previous
authorities were visible as cropmarks and have beeen mapped from
aerial photographs. They measure 20m and 10m in diameter and are
centred at SU 6636 7008 and SU 6656 7014 respectively. The
excavations, referred to by authority 2, were carried out prior to
gravel extraction and the barrows have been destroyed.

The other features referred to by authority 1 appear to be
unconnected to the barrows and so have been described separately in
SU 67 SE 109.
