More information : (SU 64431429) A building, thought to be part of a courtyard villa, was excavated, in 1910, by Mr Arthur Arnold, some 48 yards NE of Bury Lodge. The flint and mortar walls were 2 1/2ft high and a foot wide. Traces of burning, with fragments of melted glass, were noted in the NE corner. The buildings seem to extend over a considerable area to the west. Five Constantine coins (one of Constans and another of Magnentius), samian and New Forest sherds, coloured plaster, stone roofing tiles, bones and nails were found. (For a skeleton found near this building see SU 61 SW 5). (1)
The information above is based on a plan and notes in the possession of the present owner of Bury Lodge General S S Butler. Apart from the depression marking the site of the excavation no trace of this villa is to be seen. (2)
