Long 1 15' 20" a bowl-barrow thirty three paces in diameter and six feet high, opened in 1848 when burnt bones were found. There appears to be a circular ditch to the south, but it is unlikely to be a barrow. Scheduled. (2-3) The barrows are situated at the top of a hill and are under spring barley. They are all ditchless and have been reduced in height by ploughing, 'B' can no longer be identified as two confluent barrow. Published survey (25") revised. The barrows are visible on aerial photographs, first as earthworks, and more recently as cropmarks. The two confluent barrows appear to be surrounded by a single ditch. (6-7)
A third small ring ditch can be seen as a cropmark immediately to the south of the eastern barrow in this group. (8) |
