NZ 2188 1601. Slightly elongated mound, probably a large bowl barrow, measuring 38.5 m in north to south diameter and 3 m high, and 42 m in east to west diameter and 1.7 m high, with no visible ditch. (3)
Well spread by ploughing, but no radical change. Published survey (25") revised. (4)
NZ 219 160. Smotherlaw, round barrow. Scheduled. (5)
Existing survey revised by RCHME during a project on scheduled monuments in County Durham.
The remains of this earthen barrow are now much reduced by modern cultivation, ploughing still occurring over the barrow itself. The barrow appears to have been sited upon a natural knoll. The barrow now survives to a maximum height of 1.8 m, and is spread to a maximum diameter of 46 m. Some small shattered stones can be found in the body of the mound. No stuctural features are visible. (6)
