Summary : Farmhouse on the site of a medieval manor house and chapel. A licence to crenellate the house and empark 300 acres (SU 56 NW 37) was granted in 1446 and a chapel is recorded on the site in 1530 and again in the late 17th century. The present house dates from the late 18th century and is two storeyed and brick-built with a late 19th century extension to the rear. |
More information : [SU 52006565] Chamberhouse Farm on site of [T.I.] Manor House [G.T.] (1) The manor of Chamberhouse is first mentioned in 1445, and a licence to crenellate and embattle the house was granted in 1446. In 1530 there is a reference to the chantry chapel at Chamberhouse. (2) The house was in existence in Ashmole's time (late C17th) and he gives the measurements of a chapel there. (3) The present farmhouse is comparatively modern and there are no visible early remains. (4)
