More information : NZ 27631784 Moated Site (NR) (1) The earthworks, which are situated in `Village Field' (published on OS 6" 1913-38/39), are more extensive than the typical moat and appear to be the remains of an abandoned village. The name "Whessoe" still applies to a parish without a village, which is another indication. (2) NZ 27631782. Mr Barker says that `Village Field', which is now under crop and shows no signs of earthworks, was bulldozed and ploughed before this by the previous owner. Many large stones, which are now to be seen to the south of the farm buildings of Whessoe Grange, were encountered, but he could not recall seeing any carved stones or pottery. In the field to the north of `Village Field' and running parallel to the each side of the pond, is a bank 2.0m wide and 0.8m high with several stones visible along its length. This is the sole remaining earthwork of the site. (3-4) NZ 27611781. Village (NR) (site of) (NAT) (5) Listed. (6) No intelligible remains confirmed. (7)
