More information : Pits and ditches revealed by roadworks, and since destroyed, were excavated early in 1969 (sited from plans to area centred at SU 573456). A number of refuse pits were excavated, and a few sections cut across ditches. A hut also uncovered at SU 57194550, was built over a pit 6ft. 9ins. deep. It had about six occupation levels, the lowest of large flint stones, being at a depth of about 3ft. 6ins. 106 coins were found in the hut and two in the pit; one was a Trajan, the others from Tetricus to Valens. One pit at SU57194552, was 15ft. deep and was probably a well. Finds from the area include a large number of animal bones, New Forest pottery, fragments of querns, bronze articles, nails, etc. Some of the material is in the Museum. (1) VINDONIUM (?).
