Summary : A field survey carried out by RCHME field staff recorded an L-shaped villa with associated buildings. A series of potential garden terraces were associated with this complex and may be contemporary. Partial remains of a 'Celtic' field system within the area of Micheldever Wood appear to belong to a cohesive field system composed of individual field blocks 45m x 45m in area. A hoard of more than 1400 AE coins of Gratian, Theodosius and Arcadius (AD 375-408) were found in 1844 by a gamekeeper in Micheldever Wood.

A Roman building, probably occupied throughout the Roman period, and a hoard of more than 1400 AE coins of Gratian, Theodosius and Arcadius were found in 1844 by a gamekeeper in Micheldever Wood. Finds, some of which are in Basingstoke Museum, include a light bow-shaped brooch (dated by R.A. Smith to c.60.AD), a piece of Samian with part of the stamp of Matullus (c.160 AD), two brass coins of Constantine (c.320 AD) and a deer antler evidently used as a pick. (3)

The site falls in a Forestry Commission plantation and is marked by a scatter of lithics and building debris at 53093767. (4)

SU 530376 Survey and excavation located the earthworks of a field system of over 63ha related to the occupation site. (5)
