More information : (Marginal) Traces of a 'villa' comprising an oblong structure, 36' x 124' in extent, were discovered in 1849, when part of the copse was grubbed up in Wicke's or Weeks Row, nr. Upham. The walls, which stood to 5', were plastered with stucco coloured green, red and yellow. Much pottery and articles of bronze and iron were found. Foundations were also noted leading from the excavated part into the copse and also in another wood, called Well Copse, there is said to be an old well. (1-2)
