Summary : Earthwork remains of a castle mound and bailey. The mound rises 4.5 metres above the bailey, but has been damaged on the south face, possibly by the removal of trees. The bailey is surrounded by a well preserved bank, circa 1 metre wide and rising up to 1.5 metres above the enclosure. On the west the bailey bank rises circa 3 metres above the flood plain of the river Alver. Scheduled.

Castle Mound. (2)

At Rowner the monks had a windmill. (3,4)

A tree-covered, overgrown mound, resembling a round barrow, but suspiciously near the edge of overgrown gravel diggings. A sceduled ancient monument. (5)

A castle mound, with a small bailey on its S side, commanding a crossing of the River Alver. The mound rises 4.5m above the bailey, but has been damaged on the south face, possibly by the removal of trees.
The bailey is surrounded by a well preserved bank, c 1.0m wide and rising up to 1.5m above the enclosure. On the west the bailey bank rises c.3m above the flood plain of the R Alver. There are traces of a ditch on the north side of the motte, but most of it has been destroyed by the construction of a modern road. There are no traces of a ditch outside the bailey.
No entrance is now visible, but it may have been from the
north-west between the mound and the bailey bank.
The earthwork is now heavily overgrown. (6)
