The site of a large Roman building, possibly a villa, which was partially excavated circa 1870. Located at Mudhole on Wyfield Farm, Boxford, some foundations were exposed, and finds recovered included part of a bronze armilla, plus pottery and tiles. The finds may be in Newbury Museum. Ordnance Survey field investigation of the site in 1963 noted a surface scatter of Roman brick and tile on the ploughed surface of the field.
