Historic England Research Records

Monument Number 232469

Hob Uid: 232469
Location :
Hampshire
Basingstoke and Deane
Litchfield and Woodcott
Grid Ref : SU4783056910
Summary : Tree enclosure ring which encroaches slightly on Ladle Hill hillfort; previously thought to represent traces of a barrow.
More information : [SU 4783 5692] At the N.W. corner of the Ladle Hill
camp is what I take to be a slight, ditched, round barrow,
though it may possibly be only the remains of a small clump of
fir trees.

Its ditch can be clearly be seen contained over that of the camp,
showing that the mound post-dates the camp. (1)

Shown and described as "PLANTATION". (2)

Clearly visible on OGSC.APs 2138-9/22/96-7 and on the ground as
a bank surrounding a small clump of trees which encroaches upon
and is later than the IA hill-fort ; this feature is a
comparatively modern tree-ring. (3)
