Summary : Carmelite Friary founded before 1268 and dissolved in 1538.
More information : (SU 48102884) Carmelite Friary (G.T.) (Site of). (1) Carmelite Priory founded 1278 Dissolved 1538. (2) The White Friars occupied a site on the E side of Kingsgate Street, and the church was dedicated to St. Mary. (3) Remains of the friary were found in 1871 near Winchester College Sick House and Memorial Buildings in Meads, also N of the Memorial Gate-way on the E side of Kingsgate Street. The 17th century College Infirmary is built on the acutal site of the friary. (4-5) There are no remains of this friary. (6)
