More information : [Centred at SU 41800390] TUMULI [O.E.] [4 shown] (1) A. Apparently a bell barrow converted into a rifle butt. On north are traces of a ditch, and a berm. B. Bowl Barrow. Truncated. C. Bell barrow. D. Bowl barrow. (2) 'A' Remains of a barrow about 30m. in diam, The material of the mound has been removed from the northern half and piled up to form a rifle butt so that it is not possible to determine whether it was a bell or a bowl barrow. The northern half of the ditch survives: it is water-filled, 3m. across & 0.5m. deep. 'B' Bowl barrow, 20m in diam., with water-filled ditch, 2m. wide & 0.4m. deep. The mound has been almost completely levelled, except for a portion of the S.E. quadrant which remains to a maximum height of 1.4m 'C' Bell barrow, furze & Bracken covered, with hollow at centre. Diam. 51 ft, height 7 1/2ft, berm 10ft wide, ditch 11ft, wide, 2 1/2ft deep. The ditch is water-filled. 'D' Bowl barrow, 27m. in diam. & 2.1m high. No visible ditch. The mound has a slight hollow at the centre and is much burrowed by rabbits. Furze and bracken covered. (3) Probably four of the fourteen scheduled round barrows S. of Stonyford Pond, Beaulieu Heath,. (4) The condition of these barrows is as described in 3. (5) Graphical material omitted. See entry 3.
