The church of St. Philip and St. James (sic) is mainly 12th/13th century but incorporates some Norman and late Anglo Saxon work. The W. end and W. bay were added in 1840. A centurial stone, 15" x 9", found sometime before 1956 presumably at Heddon, is placed on the sill of a window in the south aisle. It is inscribed 7 FL S/ .... c(enturia) Fla(vi) S/t .... (2-3). Other furnishing include a pre-Norman cross-head in the sanctuary. (4)

The Church, in normal use, has always been dedicated to St Andrew (a). The cross-head and centurial stone are correctly described but the provenance of the latter could not be ascertained. (5)
