Summary : The approximate site of Roman turret 9B, part of the defences on Hadrian's Wall. It is buried beneath a modern road. The North of England Excavation Committee, between 1926-28, found the south wall of the turret below the hedge on the north side of the road, 19 feet long with an entrance facing south in 'the usual position'. There is no surface trace; the measured position was derived from excavation report of 1928.

This is situated opposite Hawthorn Terrace, Walbottle, 545 yards E of milecastle 10. Only the S wall could be examined and this was 19 feet long with the doorway in the normal position. (2)

No visible remains. The site is covered by a modern road. (3)

The North of England Excavation Committee, between 1926-28, found the S wall of the turret below the hedge on the N side of the road, 19 feet long with an entrance facing south in `the usual position', but offered no precise locational information (4a). Colingwood and Taylor in 1928 report that the turret was found 570 yards from milecastle 10 (4b). No surface trace; the measured position only, based on the above excavation report, has been depicted on the RCHME overlay at NZ 1696 6658; this is 25m SE of the OS position. (4)
