More information : (SU 3500 0163) Tumulus (OE) (1) Tumulus (Wise's Cold Pixie's Cave) excavated 1941-2 by C M Piggott. The primary burial was not found during the excavation but is considered to have been an inhumation. An amber necklace of Wessex type with a flat space-bead was found, its date may be late in the second part of the Early Bronze Age. It is in the Tudor House Museum, Southampton. (2, 3) Bowl barrow 30.5 m. in diameter, maximum height 1.6 m. Traces of unsurveyable ditch. The 1941-2 excavations, consisting of N-S and E-W trenches 1.5 m. wide right across the barrow, opening into a pit 6.0 m. square in the centre, have not been filled in.
