More information : (SU 29255760) Long Barrow (NR). (1) Tidcombe and Fosbury 1, a long barrow, with a probably simple (3) terminal chamber, orientated south east to north west. Dimensions, mound 185 ft long x 60 ft wide x 10 ft high. Four sarsens are exposed at the south east end and the mound has a deep excavation hollow for its entire length. Excavation by villagers in 1750 produced a primary (?) skeleton in the burial chamber. It was subsequently opened by W C Lukis, of which no details are available except that he found the horn core of an ox. It went to Devizes Museum (4). (2-4) A ditched long barow orientated almost N-S and badly mutilated by excavation. The chamber was presumably at the southern end where a few large scattered stones can be seen. Length 57m, overall width 46m. Published 1:2500 survey revised. (5)
