Nineteenth century excavations uncovered the site of a Roman villa consisting of two buildings, an aisled one and a courtyard type; part of a third building was also uncovered. Finds included painted wall plaster, pottery, glass, tiles, roofing slates, some fragments of marble, and coins from Victorinus to Magnentius. A piece of mosaic featuring an elaborate geometrical pattern had been reportedly found at the site in 1741.
