Two rectilinear enclosures, one contained within the other, are possibly of Medieval and/or Post Medieval date but could have earlier origins. If Medieval it is probable that these features were a settlement or sheep enclosures of some kind. Possible building platforms are visible in the interior. Two possible Bronze Age round barrows (described in SU 16 SW 9) appear to be encroached upon by the enclosures.

(SU 11586408) Earthwork (NR) (1)

A rectangular enclosure of 1/2 acre with outer ditch, west of
Newtown. (2)

SU 11586408: The sub-rectangular enclosure measuring overall 60
m WNW-ESE by 50 m transversely comprises a bank up to 0.7m high
above an outer 0.5m deep ditch. The S side of the enclosure is
slightly in-set to a central entrance, but breaks in the NE corner
and N side are modern. The enclosure is sub-divided by a low bank
and in the SE and SW corners are two platforms, possibly the
sites of buildings. This may well be a Md steading, although a
possible earlier date cannot be eliminated. Resurveyed at
1:2500. (3)

The sub-rectangular enclosure described by the previous authorities
has been mapped from aerial photographs. It is situated at the north
end of a large, but less well defined, rectilinear enclosure which
measures 130m by 80m. The interior of both enclosures is disturbed
probably indicating the sites of possible house platforms and the
remains of internal boundaries but these were too complex too
depict at 1:10,000 scale. A possible Bronze Age round barrow is
situated between the east sides of the two enclosures and an oval
embanked enclosure, (which is supposed to be overlain by another
possible barrow) appears to be situated underneath the east side of
the larger enclosure (these features are described in SU 16 SW 9).

As suggested by the previous authorities the date of the enclosures
could be Medieval and/or Post medieval in which case they may be a
settlement or sheep enclosures. The enclosures are situated close to
a prehistoric or Roman field system (described in SU 16 SW 128) and
could be associated, either constructed from relict fields, or
possibly contemporary to the field system. (4-5)
