More information : (Name centred SU 1012 6382) Ditch (NR) (1) (Centred SU 1008 6381) Earthwork (NR) (2) A ditch 350 yards long on the west of Milk Hill, with a bank on the west side. An earthwork enclosing an area of about one acre (positioned centrally and probably overlaying the ditch) is described by Grinsell as a recent afforestation enclosure. (3) SU 1008 6399 to SU 1015 6368. A weak crossridge dyke of prob BA date extending for 310.0 m NNW/SSE cutting off the W spur of Milk Hill; both ends terminate on steep natural slopes. The stronger Northern end of the feature has a bank 4.0 m wide and 0.4 m high, with a ditch 5.0 m wide and 0.5 m deep on its E side. At SU 1014 6374 the bank fades away, and the linear terminates as a weak ditch 0.3 m deep. This southern end has the appearances of being unfinished. The oval enclosure, centred SU 1008 6381 is a tree plantation bank, (a few old deciduous trees remain) average 0.4 m high with slight outer ditch; it has no entrance. Published 1:2500 Survey revised. The possible late Prehistoric cross ridge dyke and the Post Medieval tree enclosure, described by the previous authorities, have been mapped from aerial photographs. The prehistoric dyke appears to curve around the post medieval tree plantation bank but is probably follow the topography rather than avoiding this much later feature. (5)
