Grid Ref : SU1229042300 |
Summary : A circular feature located just north east of Stonehenge (SU 14 SW 4) and just west of the Avenue (SU 14 SW 275), identified on an early aerial photograph, may represent a fungus ring or other non-archaeological feature rather than a circular enclosure. No barrow was recorded during aerial photographic mapping surveys by RCHME and English Heritage. |
More information : Approx SU 12294230. A large circle, probably 60-70 metres in diameter, is visible on an early AP. (1) There is no trace of this circle on the ground and it seems likely that the mark visible on APs was a large fungus ring. (2)
This area was mapped from aerial photographs by both RCHME's Salisbury Plain Training Area NMP and EH's Stonehenge WHS Mapping Project. No barrow was identified at this location. Aerial photographic evidence suggests that the feature originally noted was almost certainly a fungus ring. (4) |
