Summary : Barrow group on North Hill Down comprising five ditched bowl barrows and a possible bowl barrow. Excavations located primary cremations and pottery in all but three of the barrows. Field investigations in 1972 identified earthworks of six barrows ranging between 8 metres and 17 metres in diameter and between 0.3 metres and 0.9 metres in height.

This group may have comprised 7 barrows, in which case they will
have been those excavated by E Duke: 2 contained cremations in
large urns (primary?), the third had a (primary ?) simple
cremation, the fourth had a (primary ?) cremation in urn, with
parts of 2 small cups, the lid of one being decorated. The 3
smallest barrows were unproductive. The lid of the decorated cup
is in the British Museum. (2)

Five ditched bowl barrows and one doubtful bowl barrow
(Stratford-sub-Castle 7).

Stratford-sub-Castle 2: SU 12953344 17.0 metres in diameter and
up to 1.0 metre high. Mutilated.

3: SU 12973345 13.5 metres in diameter and 0.8 metres high with
a central mutilation.

4: SU 12993345 13.0 metres in diameter and 0.9 metres high.

5: SU 12983345 10.0 metres in diameter and 0.6 metres high.

6: SU 12973343 11.0 metres in diameter and 0.3 metres high with
a central mutilation.

7: SU 12913340 8.0 metres in diameter and 0.5 metres high.

No change since 1968 resurvey. (3)
