ST MARTINS PRIORY

Benedictine cell of St Martin, founded circa 1100-1137 and dissolved 1539. The original grant, circa 1100 was for 9-10 monks. The priory was a dependant of St Mary's Abbey York. The remains of the Priory include part of a building with a Norman doorway, a tower, and miscellaneous fragments of walling.
