More information : (Centred SU 0734 6474) Prehistoric Track (NR). (1) Part of a trackway considered by Crawford to be Iron Age A in origin, and to extend from the All Cannings Cross site to the Wansdyke. (2) SU 0735 6453 to SU 0734 6493. The earthwork extends for some 400m in a N-S direction and is situated on a steep W facing hillside. It consists mainly of a terrace averaging 4.0m wide, but comprises a ditch up to 1.3m deep with a counterscarp bank 0.6m high on the downhill side where best preserved. It resembles the boundary bank to the NE (SU 06 SE 26), but rises over two slight ridges to maintain its alignment rather than deviating slightly to maintain an even contour. OS air photos show no extension to Wansdyke on the N or to the All Cannings settlement on the S, and it is probably a branch of the local prehistoric boundary work (SU 06 SE 26). (3)
The feature described by the previous authorities has been mapped from aerial photographs. It has similarities to Medieval and/or Post Medieval strip lynchets or cultivation platforms in the vicinity (e.g SU 06 SE 10). (4)
