More information : (ST 91967335) A bridge at Chippenham is mentioned in 1375. The present structure incorporates 15th c. ribbed arches, 12 feet in width, but the bridge was widened in 1758, by 9 feet upstream or 20 feet downstream. A balustrade was erected 1796 and further alteration made in 1878. It has 22 semi-circular arches. (1) The medieval bridge was pulled down in 1965 and a new ferro-concrete structure erected on the same site. (2)
