Hob Uid: 211375
Location :
Wiltshire

Grid Ref : ST9560044570
Summary : A bowl barrow containing a primary cremation within an inverted urn accompanied by a dagger. (Grinsell's Knook 3).
More information : (ST 95604457) Tumulus (GT) (1)

A small low bowl barrow, excavated by Cunnington, 1800, and
containing a primary cremation beneath a crushed inverted urn, with
a bronze dagger. (2-3)

This is a small, well defined bowl barrow 0.8 metres high.

Surveyed at 1:2500 (4)

No change; report of 13.3.69 correct. (5)

Originally recorded as Knook 3 by Goddard. (6)

The urn is included within Longworth's corpus of collared urns as no. 1689. (7)

Small round barrow, 12m diameter and 0.6m high, lies less than 30m to the W of Knook long barrow (ST 94 SE 18). It appears to have an interrupted ditch on three sides, but part of a field boundary obscures this on the fourth. The site was investigated by RCHME field staff as part of the SPTA project. Further details can be found within the project archive. (8)
