More information : (ST 94252419) Long Barrow (NR) (1) A long barrow, on Whitesheet Hill, 135 feet long, 75 feet wide and 7 feet high. It is oblong with well-preserved side-ditches; under grass 1950 (2). No recorded excavation of the barrow is known but Mrs Cunnington commented on an apparent old excavation-mutilation near its centre (3). Grinsell identifies it with a Stukeley reference to a long barrow hereabouts. (2-3)
A turf-covered long barrow, oriented ENE/WSW with the higher and broader end to the ENE. It is 43.5m long, 19.2m wide and 2.3m high. Along the N and S sides is a well preserved ditch, 8.0m wide and 1.3m deep separated from the mound by a slight berm. There is a deep oblong depression across the top of the approximate centre of the mound. (4)
