More information : An enclosure earthwork at ST 941287 unfinished on the SW side and with internal divisions, was excavated by Fowler in 1962-3 (see plan on Illust card). It had been thought to be the supposed earthworks of Tisbury Burh (ST 92 NW 16) but was found to be medieval, as late 13th c sherds were found beneath the bank and in the bottom of the ditch. Its function was undiscovered. No sherds later than 14th c were found. Immediately north of the enclosure were remains (crofts tofts, a trackway which was formerly a main approach to the church, 5 building sites and a well - mostly shown on the plan, 1 - 4 being the building sites) which were 'almost certainly those of a small settlement called Wyck, first recorded in the 13th c'; to which the enclosure was evidently related. The remains of Wyck deserted hamlet and ? associated enclosure as described by Fowler are visible on a pasture covered spur to the N of the River Nadder centred ST 9415 2862. Surveyed at 1:2500. (2)
