Summary : A large cruciform church constructed circa 1180-1200. The chancel, nave aisles and north porch were built during the 14th century, the nave arcades added in the 15th century. parts were rebuilt in 1762. A restoration took place during the mid 19th century. It is possible that Tisbury was a late Saxon minster. |
More information : (ST 94402912) Church (TU). (1) St John the Baptist's Church, Tisbury, is a large cruciform building of which the crossing, transepts and west end of the nave date from c1180-1200. The chancel, nave-aisles and north porch are 14thc and the nave-arcades 15thc. There is much 17th-19thc detail. (2-3)
