Three gaps occur in the ramparts, one near the west end, another in the middle, and a third on the east which is probably the original entrance. (3) Listed as pre-Roman Iron Age multivallate. [forts, settlements and enclosures]. (4) A well-preserved fort. Published survey (25") revised. (5)
NZ 0514 8169. Defended settlement 450m NNW of Ferney Chesters. Scheduled RSM No 25147. The roughly oval enclosure is 166m E-W by 70m N-S within three ramparts on the N and NE sides. The rampart is thought to have originally extended around the E side but is now gone; the S and W sides are naturally defended. The stone and earth ramparts are between 7m and 8m wide and 0.6m to 2.5m high. Original entrances are visible in the E and NW sides of the enclosure. Within the enclosure a wall of large upright slabs divides the interior into a small W end and a larger E end. (6)
