More information : (ST 89708595) Church (NAT) (ST 895860) Foxley. (1) Foxley listed as having less than ten householders in 1428, now a single farm. (2) Church, no dedication, Early English with additions. (3) The church is in normal use. There are no indications of a deserted medieval village either on the ground or on air photographs. There are still some eight dwellings in the village. (4) No significant markings visible on air photograph (b). (5) ST 896860. Deserted medieval village of Foxley, listed. (6) Foxley was held by Roger of Berkeley at Domesday, when there is also mention of a mill. Aldret held it in the reign of Edward (1042-66). (7) The parish church at Foxley has a late Norman nave arcade and there are 14th century windows and an 18th century tower. There are "signs of Saxon masonry" (not listed in Taylor and Taylor's Anglo Saxon Architecture). Grade A. (8)
The available aerial photographs which cover this area have been examined as part of the Cotswold Hills National Mapping Programme, and there was no visible sign of this site (9).
