More information : (ST 87684234) Robin Hood's Bower (TI) Earthwork (GT) (1) Robin Hood's Bower, a rectangular earthwork (2) named and noted by Hoare (3) This earthwork is situated in woodland that has recently been cleared and replanted. It is subrectangular in plan and consists of a ditch with a weak inner bank. The only gaps are coincident with a modern track. Neither its position (on comparatively low lying level ground) nor its construction seem to be defensive. It is possibly similar to Robin Hood's Arbour, Maidenhead (SU 88 SE 13) - a Belgic Earthwork (? 1st cent A.D.) excavated by Mrs. Cotton in 1960 Published 1/2500 survey revised. (4)
